Jack Loveday medals in Powerman Zofingen World Champs Duathlon

michelle dillon coaching, The London TriathlonAnother exciting weekend of racing for TDC with the World Champs for Duathlon being held over the long course in Zofingen and Short Course in Edinburgh. We had two outstanding performances with Jack Loveday showing just how much he has improved and how much strength a young guy has at the age of 23 yrs. Jack had a super race finishing in 3rd place in the 20-24yrs age group in a time of 9 hour 01min.45sec not bad for the 10km run, 150km bike and finishing with a gruelling 30km run. We had another TDC competitor racing over the weekend but this time it was Kirsty Anderson who was our only competitor at the World Duathlon short course champs held in Edinburgh Scotland. Kirsty had a break through race finishing 14th in her age-group, kirsty had qualified for both the World duathlon champs and the World Triathlon champs and now focuses on her race next week in Budapest. Well done guys another amazing weekend for Team Dillon athletes.

TD athlete completes her first Olympic Tri!

Team Dillon athlete Danielle Howell completed her first Olympic distance triathlon at Dorney lake at the weekend. Danielle completed the course in a fantastic time of 3hours 05mins which was much better than the time she expected to finish the event. Danielle's splits were 30mins for the 1,500m swim, 1hour40mins for the 40km bike and 51mins for the 10km run. A great way to end her triathlon season. Danielle's partner Stephen Watkins also completed the race in a fantastic time of 2hours 26mins this was only 3 weeks after his an ironman. Congraulations to both for excellent results.

On another high this weekend our oldest competitor of Team Dillon Cris Swinhoe finished 17th over all and 1st in his age group (V50) in the Allerthorpe Standard distance triathlon. Cris completed the course in 2.16.34 with a 23.53 swim, 1.06.55 bike and 45.46 run. Cris hit his target this year and the aim was to go under 2hours 20mins which he did with ease. Congratulations to Cris who is so far having an outstanding year.

Chris Ashmore finishing his season on a high!

michelle dillon coaching, The London TriathlonChris Ashmore has been training exceptionally well with Team Dillon now for over a year. Chris has been gradually chipping away at his times over the Olympic Distance and this weekend all the hard work that Chris has put in came to fruition with a personal best time at Dorney lake. On the other side of the world in Lausanne Switzerland Jodie Stimpson was racing in the World Sprint championships. Jodie still only 21 years of age was racing some of the best women in the world of triathlon and mixing it up to finish 8th place. It was a fantastic result for Jodie who has come a long way in a short time. Jodie now focuses on Budapest in 3 weeks time for the Grand Final of the WCS. See The full rsults of the race here www.triathlon.org Also see Jodie's blog & website www.jodiestimpson.co.uk

Stuart Hayes Wins WCS in Kitzbhuel

michelle dillon coaching, The London TriathlonStuart Hayes today won the WCS race in Kitzbhuel after a breakway on the bike. This is probably his best result to date. The gun fired and Stuart had a good swim he was comfortably in the front pack. Then coming onto the bike he attacked on lap 2 and managed to take five other strong guys with him. This pack eventually got 2 minutes on the rest of the field and was enough for Stuart to run away with his first ever World cup Win. More videos, pictures and story of the race can be found here at www.triathlon.org Jodie Stimspon had some bad luck in her race, she was having a great race comfortably in the front pack when she puntured. Jodie's race came to an end when she suffered with a 2nd punture.

Other news from the weekend Ben Webeck Qualified for the World Championships 70.3 to be held in clearwater at the end of this year when he placed 6th in his age group and 27th Overall in Germany 70.3. Ben has had an incredible season so far this year and we are looking forward to seeing him represent GB at the world Champs later this year. Dan Falconar was out there again pushing the pace at the British age-group champs held at Bedford. Dan placed 10th overall in his age-group in a time of 2:12:12. Another fantastic result for Dan who is flying this season. Well done team.

Read all about Our European Champion Lisa Roberts.

michelle dillon coaching, The London TriathlonWhen Lisa Roberts Won the Gold Medal at the European Triathlon championships recently I think it took a while to sink in. Lisa had been battling on going calf problems for a while and was limited with her running preparation leading into the event. Read all about Lisa in her recent interview here http://interviews.sa-people.com/2010/08/04/european-champion-south-african-triathlete-lisa-roberts/

Well done Team.

Catherine Liversidge Finishes Calgary 70.3 strong!

michelle dillon coaching, The London TriathlonTeam Dillon athlete Catherine Liversidge once again put in a fantastic performance in her first race over the 70.3 distance in Calgary. Catherine had a strong swim and a fantastic bike and was leading her age-group on the run with 3km to go had a pain in her foot. Catherine was passed and was then in 2nd place in her age group when she crossed the line at the finish and 10th women overall. Catherine quickly learned she had broken her 3rd meta-tarsal in her foot and had run on this for the last 12km of the run, you would never know it by looking at the smile on her face in the picture above. What an amazing effort and a women with a high pain threshold! Cath is now nursing her borken bone and getting ready for the World Champs in Budapest.

What a weekend for TDC!!!

michelle dillon coaching, The London TriathlonTeam Dillon athletes showed their strength this weekend at Hyde park with some BIG performances and personal bests. Stuart Hayes & Jodie Stimpson were our only competitors racing in the World Cup series and both showed great form. Jodie didnt have much luck in the swim and found herself further back than she would have liked. Jodie the fell off her bike coming out of T2 but quickly jumped back on and worked hard to pull back the leaders, however the gap grew and was 1min 14sec down going onto the run. Jodie ran strongly and finished 25th place in only her third World Cup series race. Read Jodie's blog here for her full story http://www.jodiestimpson.co.uk/ Stuart Hayes raced gutsy and reminded us what exciting racing was all about. After a good swim Stuart excited the water in the lead pack, once onto the bike Stuart pushed the pace making a solo break on the bike at the halfway point. Stuart was out in front for two lap before he was joined by pais from Portugual. The duo were then caught by the leaders but Stuart went off the front again this time with Rana from Spain they stayed away to the finish and were joined by several other riders entering into transition the group had a 50sec lead over the chasing pack. This was now set up for an exciting race with Stuart leading the field and the likes of the Brownlee brothers chasing him down. Stuart maintained the lead for one lap then caught but managed to run very well and finish in 8th place.

TDC age-group athletes were just as inspiring when we had Jill Parker run away with the open womens race winning by over 7mins from her next competior. Jill powered away from the field on the bike to win in a time of 2hours 02mins 22sec. Ben Webeck was impressive after coming off a big block of training in france and finishing top 10 in his age group. Chris Ashmore was flying through the field to record his personal best time for the olympic distance event slashing 5mins off his previous best and recording 2hours 16mins 03 sec. Peter Curry was also on fire smashing his personal best time for the olympic distance event by 3 mins. Peter recorded a time of 2 hours 15mins in only his third ever olympic distance race. Dan Falconar continues his great form even after a crash during the bike leg. Dan finished 8th in his age-group in a super fast time of 2 hour 07mins. Amy middleton an athlete who has come on leaps and bounds this season after a hard winter with TDC finished 5th in her age-group and 20th overall women in the sprint distance event. Kim Clarke finished 2nd in her age group over the sprint distance. Ruth pogonowski finished 13th in her age-group over the sprint distance recording a new personal best time. Both Kim and Ruth have also qualified for the World championships to be held in Budapest in September this year. Kirsty Anderson had a fantastic race to finish 2nd in her age-group and 7th overall in the sprint race, this comes only a few weeks after her bronze Medal at the European championships. Kirsty will now focus in on the London triathlon and the World championships in Budapest. We are still waiting on a few more results from hyde park so will follow shortly.

Amit Abhyankar finishes Ironman Switzerland on a high!!!

Amit Abhyankar had a goal to go into Ironman Switzerland and finish the race. Amit had no real expectations but wanted to finish under the 13 hours barrier. This is what Amit had trained for over the winter months. Now to finish any Ironman event is no easy feat and Amit has a full time job! This makes the challenge all the more appealing. So Amit showed us just how to do it when he went raced above all he thought  he possibly could crossing the line in 12 hours 38mins. We at TDC are so proud of Amit, if you want to know more about Amit race an interview is going to follow shortly.

Mark Butler Races to a PB at New york City Triathlon

Mark Butler recently raced at the NYC triathlon and smashed his personal best time for the Olympic distance event finishing in 2.23.48 and coming in 27th in his age group out of 186th overall. Jodie Stimpson Wins the French GP

michelle dillon coaching, The London TriathlonJodie stimpson is hitting great form with a fantastic win at the weekend in the French GP. Jodie won the race in three way sprint finish with Barbara Riveros Diaz from chilli who is currently ranked no 3 in the world and the youngster Emma Jackson from Australia. Jodie had a strong swim and a smooth bike, then once onto the run she showed her speed as she led from start to finish. Jodie was challenged at times but fought back and when they turned the corner into the home straight which was uphill she put her head down and dug deep to find that bit extra for the win. This hold's Jodie in good stead for this weekend's World Championships series race in London Hyde Park. The full results can be found here results.racetectiming.com/Results.aspx and read Jodie's personal blog on how she found the race here www.jodiestimpson.co.uk/index.htm

Bath Triathlon

Chris Hayward won the sprint Distance race at the bath traithlon today in a time of 1.16.34 on the tough course.

Jill Parker was racing in Holland this weekend at the Hotlen World Cup. Jill came out towards the back of the field on the swim and had to work really hard on the bike with some of the other competitiors to pull herself back into contention. Jill gave it her all and fnished 53rd overall in her very first World Cup well done jill.

Team Dillon athletes love a challange

michelle dillon coaching, The London TriathlonThere is one thing I love about TDC athletes is that they love a challenge & Peter Curry is no exception. Peter took the La Marmotte challenge and entered the gruelling bike race in the french alpes. The 174km cyclo sportive starts in Bourg d’Oisans and climbs the Col de la Croix Fer, Col du Telegraphe, Col du Galibier before returning to Bourg d’Oisans and finishes up the 21 hairpin bend climb to the ski station of L’Alpe d’Huez. Peter knew this was going to be a tough race and was aiming to finish in around 9 hours, however the heat took its toll and Peter was feeling sick but battled on knowing his hotel was at the top of the climb. This kept him going when others around him were pulling out. Peter finished in 11hours he said " It was one of the toughest things I have ever done and a different kind of pain, Im really pleased I finished though" Well done Pete inspirational stuff.

michelle dillon coaching, The London TriathlonTeam Dillon athletes in sizzling form at the  European Champs.

Team Dillon athletes won medals this weekend at the age-group European Championships. Lisa Roberts is like super woman she has battled serious calf problems and trained mainly in the water for her running leading into this event. Her determination through those tough times shone through today when she won the GOLD medal in her age-group 40-44 years over the sprint distance.  Lisa lead off the bike by 2 and a half minutes to hold off her nearest competitors over the 5km run section. Kirsty Anderson also had  the race of her life & overcoming a strained neck during the week to win the BRONZE medal in the 25-29 years age-group over the sprint distance. Kim Clarke finished  a fabulous 7th in the 40-44 years age-group over the Olympic distance in a time of 2hours 30min 35sec. A fantastic result by the TDC girls. Dan Falconar raced strongly to finish 15th in his age-group and the 47th overall. What a fantastic weekend so far.

The Norwich Triathlon

Ruth Pogonowski raced at the Norwich Triathlon last year and was pleased to have finished on the podium in her age-group but this year she came back a much fitter athlete after having trained super hard through the winter months. Ruth was now ready to race hard and see what she could do. Ruth smashed last years times in all three disciplines winning her age group 25-29 yr and placing 20th overall in 1.23.09. A big congratulations to Ruth.

A Mixed Bag weekend for TDC athletes

michelle dillon coaching, The London TriathlonTDC coach Michelle Dillon was in action at the weekend at the National Womens Road Champs. It was tough course with some bad crashes which Michelle managed to narrowly miss staying on her bike. Fighting up the difficult climbs and against an Olympic and World Champion in Nicole Cooke the race was won by Olympic silver Medalist Emma Pooley. In the end Michelle finished in 14th place in the group that sprinted for 10th place to the line. Michelle said " It was a tough race and I was really happy to have missed the crash which happened in front of me. Im not so sure if I would like to do another race again just because the only three races I have ever raced have all had bad crashes in them. I might turn my attention to Time Trial now we will see". Michelle's blog is to follow. More on the race can be found here http://new.britishcycling.org.uk/article/roa20100627--Report--2010-Women-s-RR-Championships-0 A big Thank you to Emma Felton who took this picture, more pics of the race and her work can be found here http://www.cyclingphotographs.co.uk/

Cris Swinhoe is TDC oldest athlete however I would say he is also one of our fittest competitiors. Cris was 17th in his age group V50 and 496th place overall. A very big congratulations to Cris once again for a another fantastic performance.

michelle dillon coaching, The London TriathlonKirsty Anderson has had some bad luck this season with shoulder injuries and also hurting her neck leading into this weekends race however she is a fighter and showed this at the weekend when raced. Kirsty started off well in the swim and did a huge PB of 23.30 for the 1,500m. Then onto the bike Kirsty put her head down and rode strongly coming off the bike 4th in her age group it was only later on the run where Kirsty had lost a bit of ground having a few women pull her back. Kirsty finished 8th in her age-group in a fantastic time of 2.25.35. Dan Falconar (pictured left in blue) has been racing so well since he has been part of TDC and this weekend he was out there again flying the flag at the shopshire triathlon. Dan finished 11th in his age-group in a time of 2 hours 07mins recording the 2nd fastest bike split of 1.00.02. Chris hayward (Pictured above in green) was also competing in the shopshire triathlon and not having competed over many Olympic distance triathlons and the heat to tackle it was going to be tough. Chris however had a great swim and bike but faded on the run due to de-hydration finishing 8th in his age-group in a time of 2.10.56. Well done guys it was a tough race in the heat and you all did extremely well.

The Weekend results are in for TDC athletes.

michelle dillon coaching, The London TriathlonCatherine Liversidge always gives it 100% when she races as you can see by this photo to your left. This weekend was no exception when Cath lined up in the Wasa Triathlon in British Columbia. Catherine has only raced once already this year and won that race by over several minutes to her nearest rival. This weekend she was up against some pro's too so made the competition tough, however Cath raced hard and finished 4th female overall and also winning her age-group. This is a fantastic result for Catherine who is looking for a medal at the World champs in her age group later this year. Her splits for the Olympic distance were Swim 24mins which included a 1min transition time, bike 1hour 10min, and run 43min46sec. Well done Cath you make us proud. Catherine's next race is on July 18th.

michelle dillon coaching, The London Triathlon There is no doubt that 21 year old Jodie Stimpson had the breakthrough race of her career when she finished 7th in the Des Monies World Cup yesterday pushing the pace on the run with the worlds best including Emma Snowsill, Emma Moffatt and Helen Jenkins. Jodie had a fantastic swim and was in a good position on the bike coming off the bike in the lead pack. Jodie forced the pace on the run which helped string the field out but it was the olympic Champion chasing and bridged the gap to the leaders. Snowsill won the race with Moffatt second and jenkins third. Stuart Hayes had a good opening swim and bike but unfortunately faded to 31st on the run.

michelle dillon coaching, The London TriathlonDan Falconar had already qualified for the World Champs two weeks ago however he was at it again this weekend in Rother Valley sprint where he finished 11th overall and 4th in his age-group so would have qualified again. Dan is getting quicker with more PB's over the swim and run sections. Dan finished in a time of 1.12.05. Brilliant racing. Amy Middleton also raced at Rother Valley where she finished 19th in her age group in a time of 1.33.19.

Other TD results include 7th in the elite womens race for Jill Parker at the Windsor triathlon.

Cris who is coached by Craig Twigg, today (Friday 19th March) completed an Ironman on his own at the hospital where he works in aid of Sports Relief raising over £1750! He did the 3.8km swim on a Vasa Trainier, 180km bike on his turbo, both in the foyer of the hospital before embarking on running the full marathon by completing 46 laps of the hospital grounds!!
